Lighting is a powerful component of a room. Lighting can directly influence whether a room feels cheerful or dreary, cold or intimate. Creating simple, unforgettable lighting in your home doesn't require a consultation with a professional lighting designer. Often the simplest lighting effects create a welcoming environment in your home. - Recessed lighting is unobtrusive, creating a soft glow that seems to emanate out of your walls in areas where it's simply not possible to install lamps. Recessed lighting helps illuminate your work space, such as in a kitchen, where recessed lights above the counters light up your cooking area. Recessed lighting gives you a gentle brightness in specific areas of a room without creating a harsh glare. If you can't commit to installing recessed lighting, sconces placed in dim areas can create a similar effect.
- The most commonly known type of string lights are Christmas lights. However, there are many more styles and varieties, such as bistro lights, globe lights, mini lights, rope lights and other varieties. String lights give any area of your home an inherently festive appearance. Wrap them around the headboard of your bed, columns or beams around the room, string them across the ceiling. The string light will emit a delicate glow that's both vibrant and welcoming.
- A basic way to give a room a more versatile lighting scheme is to install a dimmer. A dimmer will take your current lighting effect and give you the ability to tweak it according to your mood and needs. For example, a dimmer switch in the dining room allows you to instantly create an atmosphere suitable for an intimate dinner and then change it the next day to vivid, cheerful lighting for a family dinner. A dimmer can impose more variety into your home's lighting scheme.
