How to Measure Hops Acidity
- 1). Dip a strip of litmus paper in the solution containing your hops, then remove it. It does not need to soak.
- 2). Wait a few minutes for the litmus paper to change color. The color it changes to indicates the pH of your solution.
- 3). Compare the color of the dipped portion of the litmus paper strip to the color chart that came with your litmus paper. When you find the color on the chart that most closely matches your litmus paper, read the pH level next to it.
- 1). Dip your pH meter's electrode into the hops solution you want to test.
- 2). Wait a minute or two--or the amount of time indicated in your pH meter's instructions--for the pH meter to obtain a reading.
- 3). Read the pH reading from the meter's digital display to learn the pH of your hops.
