How to Make a King Size Bedspread From Online Patterns
- 1). Find an online quilt pattern you admire and can reasonably accomplish, given your previous sewing and quilting experience. Print the pattern onto a piece of tissue paper. You may have to cut the tissue paper down to an 8.5-by-11.5-inch standard sheet of paper and feed carefully through the printer. Make an extra copy of the pattern on plain paper.
- 2). Calculate the number of quilt blocks you require by first measuring the length and width of the pattern you chose. A king size bedspread, when completed, should measure approximately 129 inches wide by 117 inches long.
- 3). Divide 129 by the width in inches of each quilt block and round the decimal up to the nearest whole number to determine the number of quilt blocks you need in each row.
- 4). Divide 117 by the length of the quilt pattern block. Round the quotient up to the next whole number to determine the number of quilt blocks you require for each column of the king-size bed spread. Multiply the column block number by the number of blocks for each row to determine the total number of blocks for the bedspread.
- 5). Cut out the pieces of the pattern in both the tissue paper and plain paper. Hold the tissue paper carefully to avoid accidental tears.
- 6). Safety-pin the tissue paper pattern pieces onto the fabric. Keep the tissue paper flat and free of wrinkles.
- 7). Trace the tissue paper pattern pieces with a fabric pencil. Remove the pinned-on pattern and cut out the pattern pieces for the block pattern you chose. Cut out as many pattern pieces as necessary to make each quilt block for the bedspread.
- 8). Assemble the quilt blocks according to pattern directions with a sewing machine or by hand with a needle and thread. Attach the quilt blocks to each other one row at a time and then sew the rows together to create the top of the bedspread.
- 9). Cut one piece each of quilt batting and solid cotton material that measures the same length and width as the assembled bedspread top. Align the pieces, quilt the three layers together and sew a hem around all edges of the bedspread.
