    Types

    • Understanding the types of SanDisk SD cards that are available will better prepare you to decide how much memory you should add to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS75. At the date of publication, the SD and SDHC card categories include standard-, mini- and micro-sized versions. A third category, known as extra-capacity SD, is only available in SDXC and microSDXC versions. Identifying the correct size of SanDisk SD or SDHC card to use in the Lumix DMC-LS75 is easy to do, as long as you remember that these cards are the largest SD cards available.

    Dimensions

    • Familiarizing yourself with the different SanDisk SD card sizes, you'll be able to further clarify the difference between the types of SD cards that are available. SD, SDHC -- the ones used in the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS75 -- and SDXC cards are about the size of a postage stamp and measure 0.9 inches wide, 1.3 inches long and .08 inches deep. MiniSD and minSDHC cards are about one-third the size of SD, SDHC and SDXC cards, measuring 0.8 inches wide, 0.8 inches long and .06 inches deep. MicroSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards are about the size of a fingernail and measure 0.4 inches wide, 0.6 inches long and .04 inches deep.

    Capacities

    • Choosing which SanDisk SD card capacity is right for you depends on your needs. A SanDisk SD card provides you with up to 2 GB of added memory, while an SDHC card offers between 2 GB and 32 GB of memory. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS75 is a 7.2-megapixel camera that also records video at up to 848 by 480 pixels of resolution. If your plans include using the camera for still photography only, an SD card will probably meet your needs. If you intend to use the camera to record video or store a large amount of still photographs, an SDHC card may be more appropriate. SDXC cards, which are not supported by the Lumix DMC-LS75, offer between 32 GB and 2 TB of memory and are intended for large-format, high-definition video recording.

    Miscellaneous

    • SD cards, regardless of their maker, are manufactured in compliance with the specifications and standards established by the SDA. The SDA was created in 2000 by SanDisk, Panasonic and Toshiba and is comprised of more than 1,000 electronics-related companies. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS75 is compatible with SD and SDHC cards produced by companies other than SanDisk.
