    • 1). Download and install Ultimate Boot CD from the site linked in Resources.

    • 2). Insert your Windows XP installation disk into your computer.

    • 3). Create a custom directory on your desktop by right-clicking anywhere, selecting "New," then selecting "Folder." Name this folder "Recovery Info."

    • 4). Go through your computer's hard drive and copy any important documents or files (such as music files, family photos, and financial information) to the "Recovery Info" folder.

    • 5). Open your copy of Ultimate Boot CD. Select "No" to the question of whether you want to search for Windows installation files.

    • 6). Set the source for the Windows installation files to your CD drive (typically the "D" drive) by clicking on the "..." icon, then selecting your CD drive from the menu that appears.

    • 7). Set the source for the "Custom" heading to the "Recovery Info" folder created in step 3 by clicking on the "..." icon, then selecting that folder from the menu that appears.

    • 8). Tick off the option box to "Burn to CD/DVD," and insert a blank CD-R into your CD burner.

    • 9). Press the "Build" button to complete the process of constructing your recovery CD.
