    • 1). Navigate to one of the free ringtone conversion sites on the Internet (see Resources). This is the simplest and easiest way to convert an audio file to a format compatible with your Sony Ericsson phone without having to purchase expensive software.

    • 2). Upload the audio file that you want to convert to a ringtone. On the site you will see a button marked "Browse." Click on this to open up a file upload menu where you can browse your hard drive for the audio file that you want to convert. Some sites will also allow you to provide a link of the audio file if stored on another server. Once you have located your file, press the "Upload" button to send it to the site. This might take a while depending on the size of your audio track and your connection speed.

    • 3). Modify your audio file by selecting the length, adjusting its volume and selecting what output format you want it to be. The conversion sites will allow you to preview the track while making these changes. Everything is done with sliders, so there will be no confusing menus. Certain sites will also allow you to specify the handset and model of your phone to ensure that the ringtone will be in the correct format after conversion.

    • 4). Click on the "Download" button to get your audio file in its new ringtone format. Some of the sites will also give you a URL, so you can download the file directly to your phone using WAP. This is done by simply entering the supplied address into your phone's browser and saving the file to the folder where your ringtones are stored on your phone. For Sony Ericsson phones you will find the ringtone folder inside the "Music" folder on the memory card.
