The Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation predicts that the demand for clinical laboratory technicians like phlebotomists will increase by 2 percent from 2009 through 2017. Although Florida does not require phlebotomists to have state licenses, most employers prefer to hire applicants with post-secondary training in the field. Throughout the state, a number of schools offer certificate programs in phlebotomy to help students gain such education. - Genesis Vocational Institute is located in the western Miami suburb of Tamiami. The school's one-year phlebotomy certificate program covers coursework in HIV and AIDS, CPR, circulatory system anatomy, medical terminology, medical law and ethics, quality and safety precautions and specimen processing with hand-on practice provided in a laboratory setting. The school offers bilingual education designed for both English and Spanish-speaking students.
