    Early Learning Activities Focused on Cultural Diversity

    • Read books to young children that focus on cultural diversity. Talk about skin color and spend time cutting pictures out of magazines of people with different colored skin. Discuss that children should be friends with people of every color and that people with different colors of skin are not scary. Draw people and color them with different shades of crayons. Hang the drawings up on the wall.

    Middle School Activities Focused on Cultural Diversity

    • Create foods that come from different cultures. Discuss various cultures and where they come from. Use the maps in the classroom to learn about where different cultures originally came from. Write reports about diversity and have the middle-schoolers present the reports. Create posters promoting cultural diversity. Have an International Day and encourage middle-schoolers to dress up as members of a different culture.

    High School Activities Related to Culture and Diversity

    • Discuss cultural tolerance and what it would feel like to be placed into a different society. Have an International Day with students enacting plays, playing music and sampling food from other cultures. Examine social history in the United States and how the various cultures have melted together as the United States has grown. Watch videos about different cultures. Have the students discuss how to change intolerant behavior in others and what to do if they come across someone who is intolerant.

    Workplace Cultural Diversity Activities and Trainings

    • Discuss famous people who had disabilities and talk about ways to accept people with disabilities into the workplace. Talk about workplace tolerance and discuss how to handle people that you might not be able to understand and ways to improve communications in the workplace. Ensure that everyone who works for the company knows the company policy on cultural diversity by including it in the employee manual and in company meetings.
