Outdoor Residential Camps

• The state of Wisconsin offers at least twenty-two residential camps. Some of the camps are coed and some of the them are girls or boys only, or offer separate boy's and girl's sessions. Many of these camps are located next to lakes and woods. The campers will enjoy activities like rock climbing, river walking, canoeing, night hikes under the stars, as well as group activities and games that are fun and help campers develop personally.
  
  

Goal Oriented Camps

• Goal Oriented camps come in many shapes and sizes but they essentially refer to a group goal that all campers go to achieve. Wellspring Wisconsin is an example of such a camp, where campers go to experience Wellspring's weight loss program combined with fun camp activities. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 11-18. The campers will receive nutrition and culinary classes paired with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in group and individual sessions.
  
  

Outdoor Adventure Camps

• Outward Bound is an example of an adventure camp that goes beyond the outdoor residential camp. Outward Bound is a national nonprofit organization that offers over 500, adventure-based, wilderness courses for adults and children ages 12 and up. The camp group also offers a program specific for at-risk youth; a 28-day teen course for 14-17 year-olds. While the programs vary, parents can expect their children to experience, as the website claims, "challenging activities in spectacular environments because the unfamiliar stimulates dramatic learning."
  
  

Academic Camps

• Academic camps focus on academic or extracurricular enrichment, instead of physical activity, although some camps do combine both. Many academic camps are computer camps for technologically advanced children or children who want to learn more about technology. For example, the iD Tech Summer Computer Camps offers week-long courses in several computer issues, including: Video Game Design, Game Modding & 3D Modeling, Programming & Robotics, Web & Graphic Design and Video Editing & Photography.
