How to Recognize Brown Mold
- 1). Examine the leaves and petals of plants for any brown, water-soaked spots. This is a sign of botrytis, which grows on plants when conditions are too moist. Remove the infected areas and fix the moisture levels.
- 2). Look for powdery brown, black or purple spots on plants. This is a type of mildew that is also likely to occur in moist conditions. Brown mildew is a type of mold that is found on plants and around the home.
- 3). Study the needles of evergreen trees for matted needles covered in gray mycelium. This is the early stages of brown felt blight. As the mold ages, it will turn to a dark brown. This does not usually damage the tree.
