A home gym should include cardiovascular workout equipment as well as strength training equipment. But choosing the right equipment for your needs can be confusing. Here is a brief explanation of exercise bicycles, cross trainers and home gyms.

Getting fit is easy if everything you need is in your own home. You can simply roll out of bed and begin your fitness journey before jumping in the shower and heading off to work. Consider adding the following items to your home gym.

Stationary Bicycle

Exercise bicycles are perennial favorites because they offer a total body workout. And anyone who has taken a spinning class knows that a stationary bicycle can be an extremely vigorous workout. Choose the bicycle that fits your needs and begin exercising tomorrow.

• Upright. Upright bicycles are probably the most familiar. These have stationary handle as well as distance tracking and resistance adjustment. Some models may also have preprogrammed resistance workouts, on-board televisions and more.

• Dual action. These bicycles have handlebars that move as you pedal, giving you a total body workout. Most of these bikes have fans that both cool you as you ride and add resistance to the workout.

• Indoor cycle. These bicycles are similar to outdoor bicycles. You won't find built in televisions or fancy programming on these bikes, but you will get a great workout. The indoor cycle is the bicycle popularized by spinning classes.

• Recumbent.Recumbent bikes are best for people who have back issues and cannot ride a traditional bicycle. However, recumbent bikes are also perfect for people who enjoy reading while riding. Most recumbent bicycles offer all manner of high tech features.

Cross Trainers
Without causing any impact to the joints, cross trainers, also known as elliptical trainers, allow exercisers to simulate jogging, walking or stair climbing. Some people equate exercising on a cross trainer to running through sand.

Cross trainers are classified by the position of the drive wheel. Those that have front drives feel more like a step machine whereas those with rear drives feel more like walking or jogging. Some cross trainers have static grips with heart rate monitors. And some have moving handles that help you achieve a total body workout.

Strength Training

In order to have a complete workout, you need to make strength training part of your routine. Once you have cardiovascular equipment, such as an exercise bike, it is time to consider adding strength training equipment to your home gym

Strength training can include free weights, resistance bands and various benches. Or it can be an all-in-one system which is also known as compact home gym or a multi-station. Some experts suggest that the risk of injury is minimized when exercisers use the suspension resistance of all-in-one systems rather than free weights.

Take care of your health today instead of thinking that tomorrow will finally be the day to get fit. Why not begin by setting up a basic home gym. After all, the convenience of an at home workout is second to none.
