How to Make a Mounting Block
- 1). Measure 24 inches from one corner of the plywood and mark it so you don't lose your place. Measure 24 inches from the adjacent corner and make a mark there as well. Draw a line down the center and connect the two marks.
- 2). Put on your safety goggles and gloves. Cut the plywood with the saw down the centerline you drew so that you have two pieces that measure 2 feet wide and 4 feet long.
- 3). Take one of the two pieces of plywood and measure out and mark one 15-by-12-inch piece, one 15-by-13 1/2-inch piece and two 15-by-8 1/4-inch pieces on it. Cut the four pieces with your saw and set them aside.
- 4). Take the second pieces of plywood and measure out and mark one 15-by-12-inch piece. Cut it and set it aside. Measure out a piece that is 16 1/2 wide by 39 3/4 long and cut it; make the left and right sides of the mounting block from this piece.
- 5). Take the 16 1/2 wide by 39 3/4 long piece and measure 24 inches across the bottom from left, marking it with a 12-inch-long vertical line. Next, measure 12 inches horizontally from the right, marking it with an 8-1/4-inch vertical line. Cut the pieces along the lines to get the two sides of the mounting block.
- 6). Place the right and left sides of the block on the ground, and place one of the 15-by-12-inch pieces in between and in back of them. Glue the pieces together, then nail them together to secure them.
- 7). Place the second 15-by-12-inch piece on top of the top step and secure it with both the glue and nails. Place a 15-by-8 1/4-inch piece below the top step and secure it with both the glue and nails.
- 8). Place the 15-by-13 1/2-inch piece on top of the sides for the bottom stair tread and secure it with glue and nails. Finish by securing the last 15-by-8 1/4-inch piece below the bottom step.
