Containers of dried peas, corn, tomatoes and other vegetables are available for purchase in stores. Check the product labels and purchase vegetables that are dried instead of fried. Fresh vegetables such as cherry tomatoes, baby carrots and sugar snap peas require no preparation apart from cleansing. Wash all fresh vegetable and fruit snacks with distilled water to help rid them of contaminants. Some people overlook nuts as a healthy snack because of the high fat content many of them contain. For example, almonds contain 14 grams of fat per ounce, but the value of these nuts remains intact when you consider that 13 of those fat grams are the type of fats needed by the human body to decrease the risk of heart disease and increase levels of good cholesterol. Choose low salt or unsalted nuts to keep the sodium content of this snack within reason. - Dr. Thomas Welch used 40 pounds of Concord grapes to create the first Welch's grape juice.Alexandra Grablewski/Lifesize/Getty Images
Thanks to global trading and new methods of farming, stores offer many types of fruits and different breeds of certain ones like apples, pears and peaches. Grapes exist in approximately 50 known varieties, making them one of the most versatile and easy to find snacks. Whether you pick grapes, passion fruit, watermelon chunks, or other fruits, eating them between meals means adding a healthy snack to your diet. Seek out organically grown fruits to reduce concern over pesticide residue. - Air popped popcorn is high in fiber and low in fat.Jupiterimages/Photos.com/Getty Images
Pop popcorn in a hot air popper and take it to school plain or mixed with nuts, whole grain pretzel bits or a small amount of dark chocolate pieces and dried fruits. Mix unsweetened whole grain oat cereal with unsalted cashews and banana chips and pack in an airtight container for a healthy school snack that stores easily and requires no refrigeration. Get creative and combine your favorite healthy snacks two or three at a time, seasoning them with a dash of spice such as pepper, butter flavoring or a mix of unsweetened cocoa mixed with chili powder.
