Your adviser, your confidant, your pal--your mom is one of the most important people in your life. Whether it is her birthday, Mother's Day or just any day--give her a gift to let her know how much she means to you. However, instead of going in the sentimental direction, pick a gift that will get her laughing because even mom can use a good laugh. - Every mom is famous for their one-liners. Make up a T-shirt for your mom that lists the saying that she is most famous for. You can make this gift with an iron-on transfer and an unadorned T-shirt. Type up the lines she uses most often; perhaps, "Because I said so," or "Wait until your father finds out." When she wears this shirt, all she'll have to do is point to the saying she wants to use.
- If cooking isn't exactly your mom's area of expertise, give her a gift that will save the family from having to endure another burnt dinner--a collection of take out menus. Visit all of your mom's favorite restaurants--as well as a few of everyone else's--and gather a collection of take-out menus. Arrange the menus in a photo album. On the front of the album, use glitter glue or a marker to print, "Mom's Cookbook." Your mom will get a good laugh and you just may become the hero of the family.
- Most moms feel as if their children can't hear them, or simply aren't listening. Eliminate this problem, and give your mom's throat a break by giving her a bull horn. With this gift, whenever she has something to say, she can be sure that she is heard--and the kids don't have the excuse of saying they didn't hear her.
- Even mom needs a time out once in a while--a break from the craziness that comes with day to day life. With this gift, she'll be able to take that much needed break whenever she needs it. On a piece of poster board, write in block letters the words, "Time Out." Further embellish by writing the words, "shhhh" or "off duty" on the paper. Laminate the paper and punch a hole in the top. String a piece of ribbon through the hole and tie a knot at the end of it. Mom can wear the "Time Out" tag around her neck whenever she feels she needs it.
