Two Quick, Easy Tips To Help Men Build Confidence

Guys, do you want to build self-confidence quickly and easily? Here are two simple tips you can start on right away:

1. Practise Speaking More Slowly & Deeply

Your tone of voice and the rate at which you talk speaks volumes about what's going on inside your head. Whenever we feel nervous, we tend to speak more quickly and in a higher pitch. Hearing ourselves talk like this reminds us that we just can't wait to get the next word/sentence/story out. It also projects nervousness and a lack of confidence to other people.

Chill out. Life is long and there is plenty of time to do what you want to do and express what you want to express. Take a deep breath while talking and practise speaking a little more slowly. Start doing this in situations where you feel really comfortable like when talking to a good friend, and then introduce it to social situations like parties where you might be feeling a little more nervous.

Also consider the tone of your voice. Record yourself in a normal conversation with a friend using an iPhone or MP3 recorder. Play it back and hear whether you sound like an anxious chipmonk. Try dropping your vocal tone a little; not too much or it will sound fake and feel forced. When you meet new people, take the opportunity to talk a little deeper and breathe from more deeply in your chest than you normally would.

Focus on your tone of voice and rate of speech for a week, gradually lowering each, and by the end of the week you'll be sounding more masculine, mature and confident.

2. Flash A Smile At Everyone You See

Let's have some fun. Building self-confidence shouldn't all be hard work and no fun. Practise flashing a ridiculous Cheshire-cat style grin at everyone you make eye contact with, especially if they appear unexpectedly. You want to retrain your startle response to react with a smile by default so that when you see someone you like the look of, you find yourself smiling automatically. Whenever you're out and about walking to your car, catching the bus or train, or wandering around the shopping mall, put a big smile on your face when you make eye contact with as many people as possible.

Smile at every car you see while driving too, whether the other driver can see you or not. Get as much smiling practise in as you can and loosen up those facial muscles.

Get out there with a smile on your dial, and see how many people respond in kind. If people ignore you, feel sorry for the sad lives they live that mean they can't even manage a simple smile.
