If your child owns a scooter, whether it be electric or non-electric, their safety is of the utmost importance.
Children love the freedom to move about outside, but due to their curious and often invincible nature, kids can be more exposed to danger.
It's important to make sure your child follows some simple safety guidelines while using their scooter, so accidents can be avoided and potential problems can be minimized.
This article will present several basic tips to help make sure a child is safe.
When a child first gets their scooter, it's very important to consult the instruction manual fully for any guidelines on its use.
Also, make sure the instructions are followed in terms of assembly, with all parts securely fastened.
Loose bolts or screws can be a hazard causing a future accident.
Once the instructions have been completed and safety guidelines consulted in the manual, it's time to ride.
A child should definitely be equipped with a good helmet, elbow and knee pads, and possibly wrist protection as well.
The helmet will greatly reduce the risk of potential head injury in the instance of a fall.
Another guideline to follow is to make sure there is never more than one child riding on a single scooter.
Most scooters have weight limits which are suitable for just one child.
An additional passenger can definitely cause distractions and operating problems.
Children should also avoid riding at night, and especially avoid riding in traffic.
Make sure they are riding on smooth surfaces versus unfinished or gravel areas, which could cause them to have an accident.
Younger children should have an adult to supervise their use of the scooter at all times.
Following these simple guidelines will enhance the child's safety, while still allowing them to enjoy the use of a scooter.
