How to Make a Felt Santa Hat

    • 1). Lay the fabric flat on a surface, and then bring the top left corner to the ridge edge. Fasten a pin in place to keep this fold together.

    • 2). Turn the fabric over, and fold the left edge over to the right fold that is part of the length of the triangle. Straighten the felt into a cylinder to make double edges with folds aligned to its point.

    • 3). Go two-thirds down on your fabric where the shortest corner is touching the fold. Then, cut across from the right corner all the way to the left side. Ensure that when you cut, you do so in a straight line and not follow the top edge that slants down and left.

    • 4). Unfasten the pin from the fabric, and unfold it to reveal the cone shape for your hat. Take measuring tape and measure around your head, and then use this length on the fabric. Start the measurement from the bottom left corner, and then mark the spot with a pen or pencil.

    • 5). Lay the white felt on top of the red cutout, and then trace a curve shape on the white felt. Afterward, cut an inch beyond the tracing approximately 6 inches high.

    • 6). Match the white and red edges inside out, and then stitch a seam across the curved area to attach them together. Then, flip the hat over, and fold the white section backward so that it is showing on the outside, and sew it in place.

    • 7). Take the left bottom of the curve, and bring it to the right bottom point. Place it 1/2 inch past the head measurement mark. Then, stitch these edges together from the base of the hat all the way to the point.

    • 8). Cut off any remaining excess material. You can also glue down the edge of the material to prevent it from fraying.
