Favorite Foods

• Introduce your preschool students to new fruits and vegetables with a fun art activity. Bring in a variety of fruits and vegetables for your class to sample, and draw or cut out pictures of these foods for the art activity. Make certain to include common favorites as well as some new fruits and vegetables your students may not have tried. Bring in the whole fruit or vegetable for students to look at, and then cut bite-sized pieces for sampling. After the students have tasted all the fruits and vegetables, give each student a clean paper plate and a picture of each food. Ask students to glue the foods they liked onto the paper plate. Hang the plates in the classroom.
  
  

Colorful Fruits and Veggies

• A balanced diet should include vegetables and fruits in a variety of colors. Teach your students about the importance of colorful eating while teaching them about colors. Bring in lemons, red and green apples, lettuce, blueberries, bananas and other colorful fruits and vegetables to show to the class. In addition, cut out shapes for each fruit or vegetable that you share. Show students the fruits and vegetables, and ask them to identify the different colors. Next, give each student a few cut-out shapes. Help students to identify the fruit or vegetable and use a marker or crayon to decorate it in the appropriate color.
  
  

Class Garden

• Teach your students about how fruits and vegetables grow with a garden art project, recommends the Preschool Rock website. To begin, talk to students about where different fruits and vegetables grow. Next, create a garden scene on a large sheet of white paper with crayons, construction paper or markers, leaving enough room on the bottom of the paper to place foods that grow underground. Next, cut out different fruits and vegetables from white card stock and give them to students. Help students identify and color the foods with marker or crayons, and then glue the food on the garden scene in the appropriate spot. For example, apples would be placed in trees, while potatoes would be placed underground.
  
  

Seeds

• Use seeds from fruits and vegetables for a fun art activity. Bring in some fruits or vegetables with seeds to show the class. Watermelons and pumpkins are good choices. Cut the items open to show students the seeds. Next, give each student paper, glue, paint in a variety of colors and some clean seeds. Help students paint fruits and vegetables and then glue on seeds. Alternatively, let students make their own creative masterpieces.
