    • 1). Launch iTunes.

    • 2). Listen to the song you want to turn into a ring tone. Watch the timer bar at the top of the screen and note down the beginning and end time of the portion you would like to use. The portion should be no longer than 30 seconds.

    • 3). Right-click on the song and select "Get Info," then click on the "Options" tab.

    • 4). Change the information in the "Start Time" and "Stop Time" text boxes to match the times you noted down. Click "OK." Listen to the song again to ensure you selected the correct portion and adjust start time and stop time as necessary.

    • 5). Click on the "Advanced" menu and select "Create AAC Version." You should now have a second version of the song you chose, matching the length of the portion you selected.

    • 6). Right-click on the original song and select "Get Info," then click on the "Options" tab. Remove the marks in the check boxes beside "Start Time" and "Stop Time" to set the original song back to playing in full.

    • 7). Right-click on the copied song. Select "Show in Windows Explorer."

    • 8). Click on the highlighted file once to rename it. Change the file extension from ".m4a" to ".m4r" and shorten the file name to one or two words. Make a note of the file's location.

    • 9). Switch back to iTunes and delete the entry for the copied song.

Click "File" and select "Add File to Library." Navigate to the location of your file and double-click it. This will add the ring tone you created to iTunes under "Ringtones."
