How to Make Samurai Hats
- 1). Fold the top right corner of the square to the bottom left corner. This diagonal fold creates a right-triangle shape.
- 2). Position the triangle so that the 90-degree angle is facing downward and the long side is facing upward.
- 3). Fold the right corner downward so that its tip touches the 90-degree angle. Repeat with the left corner. These folds create a smaller square with two adjacent triangular flaps.
- 4). Position the square so that the two triangular flaps point downward. Fold the right flap up (top layer only) so that the bottom point touches the top point. Repeat with the left flap.
- 5). Fold the tip of the right, upward-pointing flap to the right, forming a small triangular flag with a tip that points outward to the right. Repeat with the left flap, folding the flag to the left side. Notice that the bottom of the triangular flags aligns with the center line of the larger square. Observe that there are two large triangular flaps remaining below the center line.
- 6). Locate the two flaps that remain below the center line. Fold the top flap (top layer only) upward so that the point reaches about two-thirds of the way up the helmet. This layer will partially cover the two flags you folded in Step 5.
- 7). Notice that since the top flap was folded two-thirds of the way, there is a strip of excess paper below the center line. Fold this strip upward. The fold should be made at the center line of the larger square.
- 8). Fold the remaining triangular flap upward into the hat, aligning the fold with the one you made in Step 7.
