How to Draw a Bird of Paradise

    • 1). Draw two long, thin, intertwined petals that originate from a stem at the center bottom of the paper and bend gently toward the left. Make the petals end up near the upper left corner.

    • 2). Add shorter petals sitting on top of the two long petals. Make these petals approximately one-fourth as long as the two long petals and about twice as wide. These petals have rounded bottoms and pointed tops (similar to a leaf shape). Create a cluster of these petals in the center of the page around the midpoint of the two long petals.

    • 3). Fill in the shorter petals with solid orange color, using the colored pencils. Color in the two long, thin petals with a bright and vivid blue. Fill in the stem at the center bottom of the paper with green.

    • 4). Add two or three long, thin blue petals protruding out from the center of the orange petals. Make these blue petals thinner than the orange petals. They should also extend out slightly longer than the orange petals. Choose a bolder blue for these petals and fill them in.

    • 5). Add shading and color variations, if desired. Shading, although not necessary, will make the flower appear more realistic.
