How to Keep Candles Burning Longer

    • 1). Store candles in a sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator before using for a slow, even burn that uses the wax more efficiently for a longer burn.

    • 2). Trim your candle's wick to 1/4-inch or 1/8-inch (for jar candles) with scissors before lighting.

    • 3). Burn pillar candles approximately 1 hour for every 1-inch of diameter to create an adequate melt pool around the candle that helps the candle wax to burn evenly and completely to maximize the life of the candle. The melt pool of liquid wax should not spill over the edges of the candle, but should reach the edges of the top of the candle.

    • 4). Trim the wick back down to 1/4-inch or 1/8-inch as the candle burns to keep the candle from producing soot and extend the life of its burn.

    • 5). Pour liquid wax out of candle if the candle is tunneling, where the candle is only burning down the center but not around the edges. Extinguish the candle before pouring wax to encourage the flame to use up all of the wax for a longer burn.

    • 6). Pull the wick back to the center of the candle just after extinguishing the flame and before the wax re-hardens to keep the candle burning evenly the next time you use it. Be careful not to burn yourself on the wick.
