    • 1). Turn on the thermal tape binding machine. These machines are sold at most office supply stores or online. Allow the heating element in the machine to reach its full temperature. Typically, the machine has instrumentation that indicates when the machine is ready to bind.

    • 2). Jog the report. To jog, lightly hold the papers and covers in your hand, fanning and tapping them on a table surface so that all of the papers and covers sort down together with no pages sticking up or out. Usually papers are jogged in two directions to bring them into full alignment.

    • 3). Hold the papers in your hands so that the binding edge is down. Insert and hold on to the papers as you place them into the thermal binding machine so that they touch the bottom of the clamp, and the right side. The machine should sense the block of papers and the clamp should activate. Release the papers after the clamp activates.

    • 4). Tear off binding tape at the length you want in the color you want. Binding tape is frequently sold by the roll, and there is a blade mounted to the box so that you can easily cut the amount you need.

    • 5). Insert the binding strip, adhesive side up, into the binding tape slot. The machine will pull the tape into the machine and position it under the spine area of the report. The heating plate is brought against the tape, and the book or report, and the tape is thermally bonded to it. The clamp will release. Lift the report out of the machine and place it on a cooling rack so the tape will cool.
