- 1). Decide what your budget will be. This will play a significant factor in your selection since big screen televisions can differ dramatically in price. It's usually best to have a rough number in mind before you begin shopping so that you don't get in over your head financially.
- 2). Decide what size of big screen would be best for your viewing situation. There are two factors to keep in mind when making this choice. First, measure the area with a tape measure where you plan on placing your television. Obviously, you don't want to purchase a big screen that won't fit in that area. Second, you should factor in the viewing distance to select the correct screen size. Typically, the ideal viewing distance should be three times the diagonal length of the screen.
- 3). Choose what type of depth you want for your big screen. Flat panels are space efficient but expensive. The traditional box varieties are less space efficient but more affordable.
- 4). Choose between a wide screen television or the traditional letterbox type. Wide screens have some appealing features, such as better scenic shots, and are gradually becoming the standard. If you want a television for the long haul, this is your best option. Traditional letterbox screens have been around for awhile and are usually less expensive. They are often the best option if you are on a budget.
