How to Clean a P99 Gun

    • 1). Press the button on the upper left side of the grip to disengage the magazine. Remove the magazine. Hold the pistol in your right hand and pull the slide back with your left. Look through the ejection port into the chamber for any live ammunition. Never disassemble a loaded gun.

    • 2). Pull the trigger. By dry firing the pistol, you release the slide stop lever located on the left side of the pistol, under the slide, above the trigger. Rotate it counter clockwise. Move the slide forward on the rails and off the nose of the frame.

    • 3). Remove the recoil rod. It is tubular and long like the barrel, but it is not hollow. It is seated in the slide. Then remove the barrel. Your pistol is now broken into its four component parts.

    • 4). Thread a cleaning patch through the eyelet of your cleaning rod. Saturate it with gun oil. Slide it into one end of the barrel and through to the other side. If there is black powder residue, pull it through again, replace the patch, oil it and send the rod through the barrel again. Once the inside of the barrel is clean, wipe down the recoil rod, slide and frame with a saturated patch. Once you have oiled the four parts of the P99, wipe them down with a dry cleaning patch. Reassemble your Walther P99.
