How to Use Tabs on Scrapbook Layouts
- 1). Determine what details you want to include about the event you are recording in your scrapbook. Such details could include important dates, names of places you have visited or a special family note.
- 2). Design your tabs. Keep in mind the size of the tab as well as the area on the page where you want to document information. Allow your creativity and the page theme to lead the way. Try patterned paper tabs at the upper corners and use a decorative pen to add hand-written text. You can also use pre-cut rub-on titles and letters, or rubber stamps that match your page theme.
- 3). Make your own tab. Measure the length and width of the area on the page where you want to add a tab. Place an office folder tab on a sheet of cardstock or patterned paper as a template. Trace around it, incorporating the measurements you made. Keep in mind that most office folder tabs measure 1 1/2 inches in length by half an inch in width. Include an extra quarter inch in width for adhesive and application. Cut out the tab.
- 4). Write or stamp your details on the tab. For example, if you are making your own decorative tab, such as a picture frame border, add your details within the frame.
- 5). Lay out your photos, special features and novelty trims on the page. Position your tab where you want it. Make sure the tab is the right size and color. Make any necessary adjustments to the layout. Add additional text or any other details.
- 1). Add adhesive or craft glue to tabs that do not come with any. On self-made tabs, apply craft glue to the extra quarter-inch border you added along the width. Make sure you don't get any glue beyond that border to avoid damaging other pages. Use a pick-up square (a hard rubber square) to remove any extra glue.
- 2). For pre-made tabs that come with adhesive, simply remove the backing.
- 3). Attach tabs to the upper or lower corners of your page or add them to the top or bottom borders. Tab application will ultimately depend on the type and size of your tab.
