How to Make a Doll Made With Buttons
- 1). Cut an 18-inch-long piece of black embroidery floss. Tie the strand in a double knot in one end and thread the other end through a large embroidery needle. Bring the needle down midway along the floss and fold the floss over so you have a two-layer strand to work with.
- 2). Slide a medium-sized round button onto the floss. Add a flat button and then a second medium round button. Continue adding flat buttons to the next 2 inches of the floss.
- 3). Slide a medium-sized round button on the floss and then add flat buttons for the next 2 inches. Tie a double knot after the last button, so you have approximately 6 inches of floss covered in buttons, and leave 4 inches of floss at the end of the knot. This is one of the doll's legs. Repeat these steps for the doll's other leg.
- 4). Cut a 12-inch-long strand of embroidery floss. Repeat the process used previously for preparing the floss for threading buttons. Add a small round button to the floss and then add 1 inch of flat buttons.
- 5). Thread another small round button on the floss and then 1 additional inch of flat buttons. Tie the floss off, leaving 4 inches of excess thread at the end. You have made one of the doll's arms. Repeat this step for the second arm.
- 6). Cut a an 18-inch piece of embroidery floss. Double-knot the end and thread the needle on the floss. Fold the floss over as you have done in previous steps. This floss will make the doll's torso. Tie the button legs onto the knot-end of the floss -- using the tail ends of floss on the legs -- so the buttons on the legs are flush against the bottom of the torso.
- 7). Stack flat buttons onto 6 inches of the floss for the torso. Add an extra-large round button as the final button to the top of the doll and tie a knot in the floss that is flush with the button. Trim the excess floss from above the extra-large button, which is the doll's head.
- 8). Tie the loose ends of floss on the arms of the doll onto the torso -- in between the buttons -- halfway between the legs and head.
