    • 1). Take the necklace and open the clasp. This will allow you to slide the ring onto the chain.

    • 2). Insert the open chain through the hole in the ring. Clasp the necklace so it is closed, and the ring slides freely on the chain without falling off.

    • 3). Rest the elbow of your dominant arm on a table, and hold your forearm vertical to the table. Hold the pendulum so the ring hangs about 2 to 3 inches from your fingers. Decide on which swing motions will be "Yes," "No" and "Unknown." For example, you can decide that a right to left motion will be "Yes." An up and down motion can be "No," and a circular motion can be "Unknown." This means the information is not available at this time.

    • 4). Test the pendulum for effectiveness by holding it between your thumb and forefinger and asking a question you already know the answer to such as, "Is the sky blue?" See if the pendulum swings in your predetermined "Yes" direction.

    • 5). Repeat Step 4 with up to ten questions you know the answers to so that you're certain of the swing of the pendulum. You may need to change your previously predetermined swing directions.

    • 6). While holding the pendulum, be sure that it swings freely and that the chain you've used isn't too short or too thick. If you find that it doesn't move easily, try using another chain or a ring that's either lighter or heavier until you get the desired results.
