Easy to Make Folding Chair Covers
- Almost any opaque, even-weave fabric can be transformed into folding chair covers. Open-weave fabrics such as netting are difficult to sew, while sheer fabric such as tulle won't do a very good job of camouflaging the folding chair.
If you're making a large quantity of chair covers for a wedding or other large party, plain cotton muslin will be your most inexpensive option. Buy the muslin by the bolt. Dress it up with colored bows or trim, or dye the muslin to match the wedding or party colors. - You can purchase patterns for chair covers, but it's relatively easy to make one using newsprint or tissue paper. Lay the chair on its back on the floor and trace the outline of the back onto the paper. Allow 1 inch on all sides for the seam allowance.
The simplest covers cover only the back of the chair. If you want to hide the chair legs also, extend the fabric at the back to the floor, and in the front over the seat and to the floor. Or you can make a separate skirt and attach it to a matching seat cushion. - Attach the chair cover to the folding chair with narrow ribbon ties, or make a bow around the chair back with larger ribbon. This large bow serves as both decoration and to secure the chair cover. Paint the chair covers, or iron on decorative appliques.
