The town of Camillus, New York is located in the state's central region, about five miles west of the city of Syracuse and just northeast of the Finger Lakes region. Camillus is part of Syracuse's metropolitan region and has a primarily suburban atmosphere. Several area colleges are just a short drive from residential areas of Camillus. - With an urban campus located about nine miles east of central Camillus, Syracuse University is a large, private university founded in 1870. As the region's major academic institution, Syracuse offers a range of degree programs centered around student research. Syracuse grants bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Its main campus in Syracuse is augmented by the largely residential South Campus just a few miles away, along with facilities in downtown Syracuse, Los Angeles, and New York City. Le Moyne was founded in 1946 as a private, four-year Jesuit university. It offers a range of bachelor's degrees in fields such as psychology, criminology, visual arts, and natural sciences. Le Moyne also offers graduate programs in education, nursing, business administration, and physician assistant studies.
