  The town of Camillus, New York is located in the state's central region, about five miles west of the city of Syracuse and just northeast of the Finger Lakes region. Syracuse University

• With an urban campus located about nine miles east of central Camillus, Syracuse University is a large, private university founded in 1870. As the region's major academic institution, Syracuse offers a range of degree programs centered around student research. Syracuse grants bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Its main campus in Syracuse is augmented by the largely residential South Campus just a few miles away, along with facilities in downtown Syracuse, Los Angeles, and New York City. Syracuse's sports teams are known as the Orange and participate in more than a dozen NCAA Division I sports, with men's basketball and football among the most popular.

Le Moyne College

• Le Moyne College is situated 11 miles east of Camillus on a 160-acre campus in one of Syracuse's outlying suburban areas. Le Moyne was founded in 1946 as a private, four-year Jesuit university. It offers a range of bachelor's degrees in fields such as psychology, criminology, visual arts, and natural sciences. Le Moyne also offers graduate programs in education, nursing, business administration, and physician assistant studies. The school's sports teams, the Dolphins, compete in men's lacrosse in NCAA division II competition and have won several state titles.

Onondaga Community College

• About six miles southeast of Camillus, Onondaga Community College is a large school with a suburban campus that functions as part of the State University of New York network of community colleges. OCC offers associate degrees in more than three dozen subjects, from accounting and nursing to photography and criminal justice. Unlike some smaller community colleges, OCC has a study abroad program, an honors program, minor courses of study, and accelerated programs for select two-year degrees.
