I am an adult now, well into my mid fifties, but that doesn't mean I am exempt from acne.
No in fact, acne is ever present to some degree or another.
It leaves me frustrated and often embarrassed.
Middle aged women aren't supposed to get big whopping zits on their face.
But they do.
So, I am always on the hunt for tips to get rid of acne.
It is amazing of the remedies that I have turned up.
Some of them are old standard over-the-counter solutions, and some of them are beyond bazaar.
I thought I would share some of these with you.
Don't laugh, some of them seem outrageous, but they do work, and I swear by them.
This is one that nearly had me doubling over in laughter when I first heard about it.
In fact I was mortified.
Hemorrhoid cream! This is an amazing remedy that kills pain, reducing itching, reduces inflammation, restricts blood flow thus reducing redness.
On top of it all, it has a moisturizer.
What more can you ask for!Just dab it on the pimples, not the entire area of skin, leave it on overnight and rinse in the morning.
It is one of my old standbys.
Try it for yourself.
Next on my list is antifungal cream, or athletes foot ointment.
I haven't quite figured out why this works to reduce acne inflammation, but I would imagine the ingredientsused to sooth the pain and itching of fungal infections, work at shrinking pimples.
Smooth it on the acne, just as you would any topical cream I have used it on occasion with decent results.
Not so bazaar, but equally effective is toothpaste - The old fashion paste kind, not the gels.
You can apply toothpaste in the infected area before you go to bed and leave it on till the morning.
Don't rub it into the whole face, but just dab a little of the toothpaste on the pimples.
Wash your face off with warm water in the morning and you would see instant changes with your acne condition.
Even I was amazed.
A work of warning with toothpaste though.
If you have any skin sensitivity, you should spot test it first.
It could cause a case of dermatitis.
One I haven't tried, but is said to work well is Milk of Magnesia.
I absolutely couldn't tell you why it works, but apparently it does.
Use a cotton swap and dab it directly to the pimple.
Give it a try -- Can't hurt.
And the last on my list is shaving cream.
Now, my husband always has smooth skin, so I had to question why.
Apparently the shaving cream has mild disinfectants as well as moisturizers.
Seems to do the job.
So, I have resigned myself to the fact that acne is going to be with me until I am a great grandmother, maybe even longer.
I am not thrilled by the idea, but I have some tricks up my sleeve.
Give them a try.
These are great tips to get rid of acne.
They work for me.
