If you or your child is enchanted by the classic 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz," use it as bedroom decor inspiration. Design the entire space around the movie, or use elements of the film to accent existing bedroom decor. Use specific movie locations, scenes, color palettes and characters to create a style, such as glamorous, country or fairy tale-inspired. - Set the stage for a "Wizard of Oz"-themed bedroom by decorating the wall with movie-inspired details. A yellow brick road wallpaper design will brighten the look of the room. A rainbow-hued or ruby slipper-patterned wallpaper border will liven up white walls. If you are artistic, paint a mural on one or two of the bedroom walls. A mural can depict any scene or character from the movie, such as Munchkinland, Glinda the Good Witch, Emerald City or Dorothy and Toto. You can also hire a professional artist to create the wall decor for you.
- An Emerald City-inspired style will give a bedroom a glamorous, enchanting feel. Paint the bedroom walls a jewel-toned green hue. Floor rugs resembling a yellow brick road will give the room an authentic look. Deep purple accents, such as velvet drapes and bedding, will appear ethereal and fairy tale-like. Plush green decorative pillows featuring gold sequins will add to the look. Hang a gold chandelier dripping with plastic or glass emerald-inspired beads.
- If your child loves the main character, Dorothy, design a bedroom dedicated to her film idol. Blue and white gingham-patterned curtains and bedding, reminiscent of Dorothy's dress, will give the space a sweet, charming style. Accent the bed with red decorative pillows and a Toto-inspired stuffed animal toy. Enhance the night stand with a lamp featuring a glittery red slipper base and a red vase filled with poppies. Place woven baskets of dried flowers throughout the room. Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow statues displayed on a wall shelf complete the look.
- Create an ultra-feminine bedroom using Glinda the Good Witch as decor inspiration. Soft, bubblegum pink walls will give the room a princess-inspired flair. Pink bedding will provide a coordinated look. Drape white tulle fabric over a canopy bed, and accent it with silver star clip-ons or pins. A night stand and work desk set featuring silver legs and glass tops will lend an enchanting look. Accent walls shelves and a vanity table with glass vases filled with silver star wands instead of flowers. Suspend glass bubble-shaped light fixtures from the ceiling.
