Ahh..
..
the holiday season is upon us; although a time for celebration, joy and love for many, it can also be a difficult time for those that are single or alone.
This is a time of the year where everywhere you look, there are reminders of Love.
You turn on the television; go out to the mall or anywhere else, there are images of picture perfect families or lovers holding hands, making it that much more difficult for ones who can't be with their families for some reason or don't have that special someone in their life.
It's easy to succumb and become a victim of sadness or depression this time of year.
So what is one to do to get through those 7 or 8 days without feeling miserable and like it's the end of the world? Here are 6 suggestions that if followed are bound to make the holidays a little bit more cheerful and gratifying at the same time - 1.
Make a choice - Being alone and single many times is beyond our control but being unhappy and miserable certainly is.
So first decide and say to yourself - this year I will choose happiness, even if I am alone.
2.
Open your heart and mind - Love comes in different flavors not just in one.
Decide to open your heart and mind to however you receive and give love to others this season.
3.
Get ready to escape from your reality - Having a conversation with yourself helps.
Talk and keep reminding yourself - "I am taking a break from worrying about being single or alone for the next 10 days.
I will go back to addressing it in January.
" 4.
Bake or Cook - If you love either of these and are wondering to yourself - why bother, it's just you.
I say Stop and Think again! Bake a batch of cookies for your friends and neighbors, if you know them, they would be happy to see you and if you don't, it's a nice gesture for anyone and you'll make new friends.
Think of people, maybe the kids cancer hospital will be happy or a local shelter.
5.
Involve yourself in some meaningful charity work - your local food bank or senior center or some such place.
Call them and see what programs they have going that you can get involved in.
