    • 1). Paint the walls in a light, bright color that energizes you and makes you want to get moving. Steel blue or aqua are two colors that tend to make a room feel clean and refreshing, as well as energizing the space.

    • 2). Hang full-sized mirrors along at least one wall. This will make the room feel larger by reflecting all available light and allow you to watch your form to make sure you are exercising as effectively as possible.

    • 3). Install bright overhead lights to supplement any natural daylight the room gets. Your gym should be well-lit, as dark or dingy spaces may suck the energy out of the room.

    • 4). Arrange your exercise equipment so you don't have to move any equipment out of the way. If it doesn't fit in the room, get rid of something. You should be able to properly use each piece without moving it, as well as comfortably walk around the room.

    • 5). Include adequate storage to keep things organized and take up less space. For example, use a rack for free weights and a closed cabinet or locker to store clean towels, disinfectants, your yoga mat, workout DVDs or other small items.

    • 6). Add some form of entertainment, such as a TV and DVD player or a stereo system, to keep you pumped up and motivated. Put your media equipment on a shelf or higher on the walls to leave more open space for working out.

    • 7). Hang motivational pictures, posters or sayings on the walls to keep you going.

    • 8). Accessorize the room with little things that will make your workout sessions more pleasant. For example, keep a cooler stocked with bottled water.
