    • 1). Disconnect the air conditioner from power. Open the front access panel and remove the filter. If the filter is permanent, wash with dish washing liquid, rinse well and set aside. If the filter is disposable, replace it with a new filter.

    • 2). Remove the screws on the side of the air conditioner and lift off the housing. Make notes about what screws go in what place for re-installment.

    • 3). Cover the motor with a cloth to protect it. Use a damp brush to gently scrub the evaporator and condenser fins in the front and back of the unit, moving in an up and down motion and using caution not to damage the fins.

    • 4). Spray an air conditioner cleaner onto the fins and allow the cleaner to sit for 15 minutes.

    • 5). Use a flat stick or utensil to gently straighten any bent fins. Wipe the fan blades with a clean, soft cloth.

    • 6). Use a vacuum cleaner with brush attachment to clean the bottom and grilles of the air conditioner.

    • 7). Empty any water from the drain pan and wipe the pan dry.

    • 8). Reassemble the unit and restore power.
