Hobby Horse

• You will need and old broomstick, sock, old newspaper, string, felt, two buttons, yarn and craft glue. Position the heel into the heel of the sock. Fill the sock with newspaper. Tie a piece of string underneath the newspaper to make the neck. Cut out pieces for the ears and mouth from the felt. Glue on the pieces along with two buttons for the eyes. Use yarn for the hair and bridle. Glue short pieces for the hair and string to longer pieces along the side of the horse for the bridle.
  
  

No-sew Bunny

• You don't need needle or thread to make a bunny for your child. Start with a matchless adult sock, a pound of uncooked rice or beans, four rubber bands, ribbon, construction paper and craft glue. Fill the sock with the beans. Separate some of the beans or rice from the foot of the sock to form the head. Tie a rubber band underneath the head to form a neck. On top of the head of the bunny, secure another rubber band. The excess fabric will be used to make the bunny ears. Use scissors to shape the ears to the desired size and length. Conceal the rubber bands with ribbon. Cut out the eyes, mouth and nose from construction paper and glue them onto the sock.
  
  

Puppet

• Design a puppet to help you tell stories to your child. Place a sock on your hand. Position your hand so the fingers are where the toes would go and the back of your hand where the heel should go. To make a puppet's mouth, cut an oval between your thumb and finger. Use scrap fabric to cut an oval to fit within the slit for the puppet's mouth. Glue or hand-sew the fabric to the oval. Decorate the puppet to match your child's favorite book character.
  
  

Gadget Case

• Turn a sock into a holder for your MP3 player, cell phone or digital camera. Place your gadget on the sock. Match up the top of the gadget to the top of the sock. Remove any excess from the bottom. Leave a little room, or about 1/4 inch, for the hem. Turn the sock inside out so you can sew the hem. You can hand- or machine-sew it closed. If you want, add a strap. Use durable material such as leather and hand-sew it to the inside of the sock.
