How to Transition From a Carpet to a Tile Floor
- 1). Cut the tack strip with the sharp knife so that it is the length of the transition between carpeting and floor tiling. This could be the width of the doorway or the length of the whole room, depending on the space.
- 2). Lift up the carpeting, and place the tack strip with the nails towards the floor along the transition, approximately 1/2 inch away from the tile. Make sure that the top side tacks are slanted in the direction of the floor tiling, and not the carpeting. Use the hammer to nail down the tack strip.
- 3). Using your hands, stretch the carpet 1/2 inch across the tack strip.
- 4). Press the carpet down on the tack strip, making sure that it is tightly secured.
- 5). Using the excess 1/2 inch of carpet, tuck the edges of the carpet underneath the tack strip, on top of the tile. Use the butter knife to ensure a smooth line.
