Flat-Screen Technology
- The first flat-screens came out in the early 1970s, but they have since became larger and even clearer.
- These screens are composed of two flat pieces of polarized glass that use liquid crystal as a backlight. When electrical current is added, the crystals allow certain colors and light to pass through.
- As well as having a much clearer picture, these screens don't flicker at all because they use individual pixels instead of rows of pixels.
- Flat screens are more efficient in energy use, making them better for the environment.
- The cost of flat-screen monitors is higher than that of their regular-screen counterparts because of the viewing and energy advantages that they present because of their improved technology.
