    Manual Can Opener

    • 1). Separate the two handles of your standard hand-held can opener. Hold the handles open with your fingers.

    • 2). Position the top cutting groove of the can opener over the raised edge of your can. Allow it to rest on the top of the can.

    • 3). Push the two handles together firmly until the top cutting groove pierces the top of the lid of the metal can. Some openers will lock into place.

    • 4). Turn the knob on the can opener to start cutting through the metal lid. The tool will automatically move around the can. If the opener detaches from the can accidentally, just attach it back over an area where you've already cut and proceed with turning the knob.

    • 5). Remove the the can opener from the lid once you're about a half inch away from the place where you started cutting. Insert a knife or fork under the open lid to safely lift the lid up from the can and use your product.

    Battery-Operated Opener

    • 1). Add fresh batteries to the can opener's battery compartment . Lift the handle on your battery-operated opener and position it close to your can on the counter.

    • 2). Place the cutting groove of the can opener over the lip of the can. If you have a "one-touch" model, position the can opener over the top of the can and place the cutting groove against the side of the can lid instead. In either case, the magnet will attach itself to the top of the can.

    • 3). Press down on the handle gently to activate the can opener and lift the can slightly off of the counter. Allow the cutting groove to trim off the can lid--the can will move around in a circle until it's done. The magnet lifts the lid from the can so that you can dispose of it.
