Fun Paperweights
- Find a rock that is a decent size. Clean it with soap and water and let it air dry. Using acrylic paint, coat the rock in your favorite color, adding swirls, polka dots, or other interesting designs if you desire. Once the paint has dried, use a permanent marker to personalize it with your name, your favorite team, or an important date. Use glitter, sequins or other fancy decorations to jazz it up. If your rock has a rough service, glue a piece of felt to the bottom so you don't scratch the surface of your desk.
- Craft stores in your area typically carry glass items that could be used as a paperweight, or sell a do-it-yourself paperweight kit. These kits include a clear glass paperweight that allows you to attach either your favorite photo of friends and family, or a decorative paper. Decide which paper or photo you would like to use, and attach this paper to the glass piece. If you are creating your paperweight without using a kit, attach a piece of plastic to the bottom of the weight using craft glue so the paper will not wear away over time.
- Craft stores offer numerous choices of crystals or prisms. Popular items like large crystal hearts or diamonds come in various colors make a wonderful paperweight. They are heavy enough to hold down papers, and bring elegance to your workspace.
- If wind up with a lot of rubber bands at your desk, use them to fashion a paperweight. Find an item in your workspace, such as a small box, that is used for decorative purposes. Wrap the box with rubber bands over-and-over again, working in alternating directions. As you continue to wrap your item, it will grow in size, and make a wonderful conversation piece. This hobby may also help you pass time when work is slow. And you will never be without a rubber band.
