    • 1). Measure the dimensions of the frame of your easel, using a tape measure. Measure the outside edges of the frame. For example, the dimensions of the frame are 24-by-30-by-2-inches.

    • 2). Double the height of the frame and add it to the length and width dimensions. The adjusted measurement is the fabric dimensions. The doubled height is to adjust for the seams of the fabric piece. For example, the fabric dimensions are 26-by-32-inches.

    • 3). Mark a fabric piece to the fabric dimensions, using a ruler and fabric chalk. Mark the fabric on the wrong side to hide the markings.

    • 4). Cut the fabric piece along the outline of the fabric chalk, using fabric shears. Fabric shears cut the fabric precisely and do not fray the fabric.

    • 5). Place the fabric on a level surface. Position the front of the easel over the fabric. Pull the edges of the fabric toward the back side of the frame of the easel. Adjust the fabric, so that there is an equal amount of fabric along the back side of the frame. There should be approximately 2 inches of excess fabric around each edge.

    • 6). Staple the top edge of the fabric to the top edge of the back of the frame. Staple the left edge of the fabric to the left edge of the back of the frame. Space the staples 2 inches apart.

    • 7). Pull the bottom edge of the fabric upward to tighten it. Hold the tightened bottom edge of the fabric and staple it to the bottom edge of the back of the frame. Pull the right edge of the fabric upward to tighten it. Hold the tightened right edge of the fabric and staple it to the right edge of the back of the frame. Space the staples 2 inches apart.
