5 Grown-Up Easter Basket Ideas for Your Beloved
Easter baskets don't have to be just for kids. In my family's native Italy, adults exchange large chocolate eggs filled with surprises - sometimes customized and stuffed with jewelry, fancy neckties, designer sunglasses, and the like. And there's no reason you can't make a personalized, grown-up Easter basket full of goodies for your spouse. Here are some ideas if you're looking for inspiration:
The DatingDivas.com suggests creating a basket filled with stuff to get the heart racing - your favorite panties and underwear wrapped in "his" and "hers" paper, a "peep" show ticket attached to a box of actual Peeps, and coupons for stuff like a "steamy shower for two." But I say put racy panties in plastic eggs and present them to your wife. Or offer an array of body paints, massage oils, and candles to set the mood in a basket for your husband. Basically, think about how to package a night of hot sex in a basket and go for it.
Perhaps, you and your husband or wife are religious. If that's the case, then I apologize if basket No. 1 offended you, but spouses should work to keep their marriage passionate. Instead, however, you could create a basket with candles (to set the mood for relaxing and reflecting) and prayer books related to couples in love. You could also include a book of your favorite poems or religious items, such as a cross (perhaps made out of palm on Palm Sunday), a special Bible, or religious-inspired artwork.
Everyone has his or her bliss, a hobby that distracts from life's challenges. So, create an Easter basket around your spouse's hobby. If your wife knits, you could include knitting needles, some cool yarn, and a couple of patterns. If your husband golfs, you could give him a whole basket of balls or include a ticket for tee time. The message this basket sends is you're paying attention, and you support your spouse's interests.
If you're like my husband and me, then you enjoy food - going out to restaurants or cooking at home. You could easily make a basket that is a food-lover's dream. For starters, the basket could be a picnic basket and it could include spices, recipes, and condiments. Or you could put in gift cards to your favorite restaurants or groceries - fruits, veggies, and pasta. Try to pick up out-of-the-ordinary ingredients or everything you need to make a dish your spouse loves or really wants to try. If your spouse is a wine or beer lover, you could even give them a basket with a bottle of wine and glasses for drinking or a six pack. I've seen beer bottles dressed up like bunnies replete with pipe-cleaner ears.
One of my favorite ideas is the grown-up egg hunt, which is all over the Internet. I particularly liked the suggestions found on handmademood. The bloggers suggest having adults gather to search for plastic eggs filled with adult-friendly surprises, such as gourmet chocolates, in your backyard during the night. You could also get jumbo eggs filled with mini bottles of booze. Or, since you're doing this just for your spouse and you, then you could go the naughty route and include some of those skimpy panties I suggested earlier. Be creative and give some thought to what fits inside those plastic eggs. You could also put clues that lead to a larger basket like any of the ones described above into the eggs. Whatever you do, I definitely think you should invest in some of those eggs filled with confetti, also known as cascarones, and smash them on each other. What could be more fun?
