Nevada Emergency Medical Services (EMS) enforces health conventions that advance the goal of providing highly professional care for patients who are in urgent need of care in very vulnerable situations, which require the services of skilled emergency medical technicians. Emergency protocols could mean the difference between life and death, and the provision of care, or lack thereof, can result in either a satisfied clientele or a malpractice suit. Nevada EMS policies encompass the areas of licensing of staff, patient transfers by ambulance, emergency medical personnel, reports and recordkeeping and authorized resuscitation practices. - Emergency medical technicians represent all personnel working to care for patients in critically urgent situations.emt-paramedic image by JASON WINTER from Fotolia.com
Chapter 450B Emergency Medical Services of the Nevada Administrative Code sets down the Nevada EMS protocol for training and licensing, and stipulates certification codes for its personnel, including those governing EMS attendants, medical technicians, medical dispatchers, firefighters and ambulance drivers/pilots. Without protocols guiding EMS team members, patient care would be in disarray. Costs, application requirements, EMS training courses and authorized job specifications are among the protocols contained in Nevada's Chapter 450B Emergency Medical Services of the Nevada Administrative Code. - A trained paramedic dispatched and ready.emergency image by Mat Hayward from Fotolia.com
Chapter 450B Emergency Medical Services of the Nevada Administrative Code provides direction for paramedics in administering certain types of pharmaceutical medicines and controlled products to which patients can be allergic. Responsible drug storage and limited use of them are among the issues dealt with in the EMS code since these measures can decide the life or death of a patient. Protocols on the treatment of traumatized patients, designation of trauma centers and procedures for do-not-resuscitate identification are included in these guiding policies enacted to respect the patient's health and wishes. - Nevada's Chapter 450B also deals with situations that call for disciplinary action against EMS personnel who have willfully or unwittingly endangered the life of a patient or who have transgressed the standard protocols of EMS. Unprofessional conduct and use of improper or inoperative equipment at a critical point are the main offenses dealt with. Penalties for violations include suspended or revoked licenses.
