    Painting the Plant Stick

    • 1). Pour a small puddle of wood sealer onto the glass plate. Use the 1" wash brush to spread the sealer over the sticks and the wood rectangles. Let the sealer dry completely. One coat should be enough to seal the wood and protect it from weather elements.

    • 2). Choose the colors you would like to paint the stick and rectangle. Shale the paint bottle well and pour the paint onto the plate. Using the flat brush, basecoat the edges of the surface first before painting each flat side. Let one side dry before applying the paint to the reverse side. Clean your brush in the water bin removing all the color from it and blot it dry.

    • 3). Choose a paint color that will contrast with the foundation colors you applied to the surfaces. Add the name of the plant to the rectangle surface with the pencil. Use the round brush and the contrast color to paint the letters onto the surface. With the wooden tip of the brush handle, add dots of color to embellish the wood or add a series of dashes around the edge as a stitched affect.

    • 4). Once the surface is competely dry, hot glue the rectangle to the stick. Place the glue near the top of the stick and press the rectangle in place. Be careful since the glue is very hot and will burn you.

    • 5). Varnish the plant stick using a water resistant varnish. This varnish can be found in an art and craft store. Apply at least three coats of the varnish to all the surfaces allowing each coat to dry before adding another.
