    Car Wash

    • A car wash can be done with supplies everyone brings from home. Have students or students' families bring garden hoses, buckets and car-wash soap. Have the car wash on a Saturday or after school. Advertise heavily at the school, or ask to place an ad in a newsletter sent home to parents.

    Bake Sale

    • A bake sale can be done on its own during school hours, after school or in conjunction with another event such as a car wash. Have each family pitch in to bring in a few home baked goods. Sell them for $1 for the smaller items and up to $10 for larger items like pies and cakes.

    Raffle

    • Call up a local retailer, travel agent or restaurant, preferably someone affiliated with the school in one way or another. Ask them if they would be interested in donating a service such as a shopping spree at their store, a vacation or a free meal. Encourage students and families to purchase tickets for the raffle at $1 a piece, with more tickets meaning more of a chance. Announce the winner at a school sporting event or during school, but make sure it is at a prearranged date so everyone will know when the winner will be announced.

    Talent Show

    • Have a talent show featuring student, teacher and parent talent. Encourage everyone to participate. Sell tickets for $10 or $15, and set up a donation box so people can donate more if they feel so moved. This would be a great time to host a raffle or sell baked goods and drinks (such as sodas and lemonade) as refreshments.

    Restaurant Profits

    • Ask a local restaurant to designate a day and time when a percentage of their profits can go to your Parent Teacher Committee. For example, if people come in on the appointed date between 8 and 10 p.m., 15 percent of profits will go to your PTC. Encourage everyone you know to patronize the restaurant during that time.

    Dog Wash

    • This can be done as an add-on to the car wash, or as a separate event. Have everyone bring garden hoses and a few tubs to put the dogs in. Ask a few people to bring hair dryers and pet shampoo (make sure you have a few hypoallergenic ones for sensitive dogs). Advertise at your school for this event, and have it on a Saturday or after school.

    24-Hour Dance-Off

    • Set a date a few months in advance, and reserve the school gym. Have participants ask friends and family to donate money to sponsor them in this endeavor. On the night of the event, ask everyone to bring in iPods and CDs and hook them up to the speakers. You can even assign a committee to decorate. Provide refreshments to those participating. See who can go the longest. You can even call up a restaurant, retailer or travel agent to donate a big prize as an incentive for the person who has danced the longest.

Hair Cutting, Shaving or Getting Rid of a Beard

    • If you have a faculty member famous for their long hair or beard, this is ideal. Set a goal for how much money to raise. The idea will be that when the money is raised, the faculty member will cut their long hair, shave their beard or shave their head. To add to the excitement, you can set a date this will happen so that the faculty member can make the first few cuts in public.
