1. Did you know that tattoos were once banned entirely in many major cities? It's true. Cities like Boston, New York, and Chicago experienced bans from tattoos during the Hepatitis outbreaks. Boston had a ban on tattoos starting in the 1960s and held onto them all the way until 2000; yeah, it is crazy to think that Bostonians could not legally get tattoos until 14 years ago. New Yorkers could not legally get tattoos between 1961 and 1997. How crazy is that? They seem like something people would not think about when looking to ban things.
2. There is a link between pregnancy and the tramp stamp. No, not the myth that the girls who have them tend to get more pregnant but rather a more scientific one. Doctors have stated their concern about giving the epidural shot to pregnant women with tattoos on their lower backs because of the risk that ink fragments can enter the spinal cord; when given an epidural shot, it is done in that area, hence, the risk of the ink getting into the spinal cord. Now, the risk is small but still there.
3. Henna tattoos are becoming a very popular form of tattooing. For those who are not ready to get a more permanent option or those who wish to experience part of the Indian culture, henna can be a great experience. However, black henna can be dangerous due to one ingredient: phenylediamine (PPD) which can cause nasty skin reactions and even be a carcinogen and cause cancers such as leukemia.
4. Mr. Rogers does not actually have tattoos on his arms to hide his "heavily inked arms" that featured tattoos decorating his allegedly esteemed Navy Seal career. As fun and cool as it would be to think that he was a tough and rugged military man with ink all over his arms, it was proven that it was not true.
5. Some people get tattoos to sponsor companies. There is such a thing as getting a tattoo paid by a company to be a walking billboard (they go away eventuall) while some companies have taken things to another level. One company in New York gave employees a 15 percent pay raise if they got a tattoo of the company's logo on their body.
