    • 1). Wash your hands well with soap and water, then dry with a towel. Clean hands prevent you from transferring natural oils from the skin to your clip-in hair extensions.

    • 2). Remove tangles and comb hair extensions using a wide-toothed hair pick. Gently pick through the hair extensions without tugging and pulling, which can cause the hair extensions to stretch or break.

Mix 1 tsp. baby shampoo with 2 qt. cold water in a bucket to make a soapy solution. Place the hair extensions in the shampoo solution and allow them to soak for five minutes.

    • 4). Hold on to the ends of the hair extensions and dunk them up and down in the shampoo solution several times. This gentle agitation loosens and removes dirt and grime without harming the extensions.

Rinse the hair extensions with cold water by filling the bucket and gently swishing the extensions around in the water. Empty the bucket of the rinse water, fill with fresh water and rinse the hair extensions a second time to make sure all shampoo has been removed.

    • 6). Wick water from the hair extensions by dabbing them with a towel. Continue to dab and blot until you've removed as much moisture as possible.

    • 7). Spray the damp clip-in hair extensions with a leave-in conditioner made specifically for hair extensions. Lay the hair extensions on another dry towel and allow them to air dry completely.
