How to Make a Bee Out of Paper
- 1). Blow up two small latex party balloons and tie the ends off. One should be round which will be your bee's head and one should be the traditional balloon shape which will be the bee's body.
- 2). Tear pieces of newsprint into strips that are approximately 1 inch wide and 2 to 3 inches long.
- 3). Pour some liquid starch into a disposable pie plate until the plate has approximately half an inch of liquid. You can add more later, if needed.
- 4). Cover both balloons with papier-mache. To accomplish this, dip a strip of newsprint in the liquid starch and then place the strip on the balloon. The strips should overlap. For more strength, it is best to lay your strips in different directions versus all uniform. Leave the tied end of each balloon exposed.
- 5). Tie a piece of 1-foot twine to the tied end of each balloon. Use the twine to hang the balloons up and allow them to dry overnight, or until the papier-mache is dry.
- 6). Use scissors to cut the knot of each balloon to deflate it. Remove and discard the balloon remnants.
- 7). Place the head and body together. The two holes left by the balloons should meet. Use strips of newsprint and liquid starch to hold the pieces together. Place papier-mache strips from head to body and allow it to dry thoroughly before proceeding.
- 8). Bend two pieces of craft wire into wing shapes.
- 9). Insert one wire wing into the foot of a pair of black pantyhose. Cut the pantyhose, using scissors, below the end of the wire. Pull the pantyhose tight and tie a knot in the end to keep them on the wings. Trim off the extra pantyhose, as close to the knot as possible. Create the second wing in the same manner.

Attach your wings with a hot glue gun onto the back of the bee. Hold them in place for 30 seconds while the glue hardens to finish your bee.
