Making Hair Accessories With Beads
- Sew a custom-made beaded headband. Purchase a pre-made headband in a plain color. Black is ideal. You can use beads to add pizazz to the headband in several ways.
Sew on tiny beads in a contrasting color around the perimeter of the headband. Create a jazzy look by gluing on medium size bands all over the headband in a zigzag pattern. For immediate visual impact, glue two large beads to the headband at the ends and one even larger in the middle. - Construct your own personalized barrette. Barrettes can add the perfect touch to a fancy chignon up-do or even a simple braid. Buy a plain barrette and thin ribbon in a color that matches your clothes. Wrap the ribbon around the barrette and thread it through large beads in a contrasting color. Pull the ribbon taut so the beads aren't falling slack. Tuck in the ends of the ribbon and add a small drop of glue to hold it in place.
Another look can be created by placing several beads at the end of ribbons. Put a knot at the end of the ribbon to leave the beads place. Attach the ribbon to the ribbon with glue to the end of the barrettes. The ribbons and beads will dangle at the end for a very dramatic look. - Shape your own tiara. A tiara is a piece of jewelry designed to fit in your hair. They are traditionally worn during very formal occasions such as weddings. To make your own, buy a tiara band. These are simple bands that will attach directly to your head, usually with a bobby pin attachment in the middle. Take a few minutes to sketch your desired finished look first. An uncomplicated design done in basic colors such as white or red works nicely. Darker hair works very well with lighter colors while lighter hair can show off brighter colors to striking effect. Then use beads to create the design with wire and fishing line. Choose wires in a matching or complimentary color. Wrap the wires around the band. Slip or glue beads on the wire. Hold the beads in place with glue.
