How to Estimate the Cost of a Ceramic Tile Floor

    • 1). Measure the first length of floor to be tiled from wall to wall (laying a tape measure on the floor, against a wall will make this easier). Write this measurement down, including the entire measurement (feet and inches).

    • 2). Repeat step 1 on the perpendicular length of floor, then multiply these two measurements by each other to calculate the total area (in square feet) of the floor to be tiled.

    • 3). Repeat steps 1 through 3 on remaining floor surfaces to be tiled, keeping track of square footage for separate rooms on your paper.

    • 4). Add the square footage of the rooms together for the total square footage of floor to be tiled for the job.

    • 5). Multiply the total square footage of floors by the cost (per square foot) of the tile you are going to use; multiply this number by 1.1 to add 10 percent to the cost to account for any possibly wasted material, and write this number down.

    • 6). Divide the total square footage of the floor surface by the area coverage per package of the adhesive you are going to use (this coverage will be listed on the packaging of the material) to determine how many packages of adhesive you will need. Multiply the number of packages needed by 1.1 to add 10 percent for material waste, then multiply this number by the cost of the material per package for the total cost of adhesive.

    • 7). Add the costs from steps 5 and 6. This is your estimated total cost of materials.
